Whyyyyyy would you publish something like this, Salon? Beauregard is a complete goofball (see: The Spiritual Brain, which is more or less a Lee Strobel book with neurosci jargon), and NDEs/OBEs are straight up hokum. The comments on this article are even more depressing, as I had no clue how many people truly believed in this nonsense. That is, until I realized that my own university has a research position created specifically “to situate near-death experience (NDE) survivors as the insider-experts on the first-hand experience of dying”.
Barf.
