NXT Women’s Championship:
Natalya (w/ Bret Hart) Vs. Charlotte (w/ Ric Flair)
NXT Takeover - May 29th, 2014
Dear God, do I feel sorry for anyone who isn’t able to see NXT Takeover. For as long as I’ve been watching wrestling and as extensively I’ve been paying attention, especially lately, it’s hard to believe that there’s ever been a brighter future for the WWE than there is right now. This entire show, from start to finish, was absolute gold.
The word “arguably” could be used here, but what many consider to be the match of the night was the battle for the vacant NXT Women’s Championship. After viewing it for myself, I honestly couldn’t see how anyone couldn’t say that this is a contestant for match of the year. It’s not exactly a stretch to say that Natalya is one of the best female wrestlers on the WWE’s extensive roster, but if you’re asking me, I’d put her in the league of being on the the WWE’s overall best wrestlers. In this match, she pulls out some stuff that I’ve never seen her do, and it adds so much to the air of how important this match is for both Natalya and her opponent.
Charlotte is a wrestler who’s grown by leaps and bounds. It’s one thing to be the daughter of a legend, but when you’re the daughter of Ric Flair, you have a pair of boots to fill that many wrestlers combined would fall short of. In terms of natural ability, Charlotte clearly has what her oldest brother never did, and that’s the hereditary wrestling gene that will surely place her name amongst legends. Every single thing about this match is great, from the lead up, to the match itself, even the post-match is wonderful. Brilliant work by the brass at NXT. This is what makes me proud to be a wrestling fan.
see what your divas can do when you give them more than a 6 minute joke segment/match, wwe?
